Made-to-measure bookcase - your dream piece of furniture for all your books

Do you love to read for a living and have problems accommodating all your books? Then you need a customised bookcase that is designed exactly according to your requirements. This is exactly where we come in: At Pickawood, we offer you customised furniture made to measure. Use our 3D shelving configurator, with the help of which you can not only determine the size of your bookcase yourself, but also choose numerous other features. The configuration is very simple: In the first step, you select the size of your bookcase and tell us how many compartments you need. Then choose one of our practical extras, for example a row of holes. Even a door conversion or individual wishes such as glass doors or a cable outlet are no problem for us. Finally, it's time to choose the materials: of course, you can also buy one of our ready-made bookcases if you don't want to benefit from our configuration. With us, you will find a huge selection, for example wooden and wall shelving systems, add-on shelves, room divider shelves or a complete bookcase.

The special thing about our bookcases: our experienced carpenters only use high-quality woods that come from sustainable forestry. You also benefit from our free and competent advice. You are not sure which bookcase fits best in your living room? We will be happy to advise you in detail. If you wish, we can even assemble your new bookcase for you at home.

Convince yourself of the combination of design and functionality and design a beautiful custom-made bookcase here, for example, from our solid wood types such as alder, ash or oak at the online carpenter Pickawood for the living room. Your custom-made piece of furniture is very versatile, so it looks fantastic in the hallway as well as in the living room or the youth room. The shelf offers you all the compartments in which you can comfortably store your books as well as other items. If a classic bookcase is too plain for you, perhaps you would like a tiered shelf for your books? If you have sloping roofs in your apartment/house, you can make wonderful and stylish use of them with our custom-made sloping roof shelves. For more flexibility with the shelves, you have the option of adding rows of holes to your bookcase. This way, you can also adjust your shelves to the height of your books at a later date. And so that your new beautiful piece of made-to-measure furniture can also stand directly against the wall, we will be happy to make a cut-out for your skirting board on request. Our carpenters only use wood from sustainable forestry to make your piece of furniture.

How deep should a bookcase be?
A standard paperback book has a depth of 12 cm, a reference book is usually 17 cm deep and a DIN A4 book is 21 cm deep. We at Pickawood recommend that you configure the shelf for books an additional 2 cm deeper. If you want to configure your shelf with a back panel or doors, we recommend that you plan your shelf 2 cm deeper in each case.

When does a custom-made bookcase need to be fixed to the wall?
At Pickawood, we recommend that you always fix your shelf to the wall. We enclose the appropriate tilting brackets with your order.

Which types of wood are particularly resilient?
Our solid wood types as well as our multiplex are particularly resilient materials and are therefore especially suitable for your custom-made bookcase. You can also improve the stability and load-bearing capacity of a bookcase by planning the columns or shelves to be as narrow as possible. This also applies to wine racks, where the individual compartments also have to bear a lot of weight.

Is it possible to use a mix of materials?
A combination of materials is possible with a few exceptions, so you do not have to decide on one material for your bookcase. You can plan carcasses and fronts in the configurator in different materials as you wish. A popular combination of materials is, for example, a mix of an oak carcase and lacquered drawers.

From what height and width does a bookcase have to be divided?
Top and bottom panels as well as side-panels have to be divided when the following dimensions are exceeded: MDF/ chipboard/ real wood veneer: 272 cm, multiplex: 245 cm, solid wood: 300 cm. The division is based on the maximum panel dimensions available in the trade. Please discuss with us where your division should be. Otherwise we will make a division that is advantageous for the construction.

How do I decorate a bookcase?
There are various ways of arranging your books on your shelf. For example, you can sort the books by colour, this is soothing to the eye. If you don't like this and prefer to keep your bookcase simple, you can place the books on your shelf with their backs to the wall. You can also break up the order in your bookcase by alternately placing some books vertically and horizontally in your bookcase. In addition to books, decorative elements such as figurines, vases or small plants can also be placed on a shelf. Choose colours that match the room.

What are pre-configured products?
These are configurations of shelves, cupboards and sideboards that you can either add to your shopping basket exactly as they are or use as inspiration when planning your furniture. You have the option of adapting the products to your wishes in the simple online configurator. If you have any questions about our pre-configured products, our furnishing advice service will be happy to help.

How long does it take to assemble a large bookcase?
For a small bookcase, assembly will usually only take an hour. However, if you have chosen a large bookcase, the assembly can take several hours. If you need assistance with the assembly, you can also add our assembly service directly to your order in the shopping cart.

Is it possible to plan a bookcase under a slope?
You can either plan our shelves as a custom-made tiered shelf where the individual columns have a different height or you can directly plan a sloping roof shelf according to your ideas.

How narrow can I plan a bookcase?
The smallest width in our configurator is 30 cm. If you are planning a narrow but high shelf, we strongly recommend that you fix the shelf to the wall.

In which colours can I order a bookcase from Pickawood?
The most frequently ordered colour for our bookcases is white. Therefore, we offer various white coatings and lacquers. However, you can of course choose from many other colours and solid wood types.

Can I mount a bookcase on the wall?
If you are planning a bookcase without a plinth, you can select the wall hanging option in the last step of our configurator. In this case, a wall bracket with a load-bearing capacity of 60 kg per panel will be embedded in each vertical panel. Please note the total load-bearing capacity and that your shelf must be fixed to a solid wall.
