Pickawood: birch sideboards

A birch sideboard is not only a real eye-catcher, but also a practical helper in almost all rooms. Are you still looking for a storage option made of solid wood for your living room or bedroom, hallway or dining room? Then a sideboard from Pickawood is just the thing for you. Our custom made sideboards made of high-quality birch wood enhance any room and offer enough space for all your treasures with their drawers, compartments and doors.
Our modern solid wood sideboards come in a variety of finishes and designs. In addition to our design suggestions, which you can view in the shop and order directly, we offer you the option of configuring your piece of furniture individually. Our practical online configurator offers assistance. In just a few steps, you can select your desired dimensions and the suitable material for your sideboard. You can also decide for yourself how to combine open and closed storage compartments and choose between different fronts, back panels and handles.
However, our compact sideboards not only impress with plenty of storage space, but also with a versatile storage area. As a rule, sideboards have a height of 70 to 100 centimetres. The exact custom made dimensions of your sideboard should, however, depend on the desired purpose. For example, if you want to place tall objects such as vases or flowers on the shelf, a lower model is ideal because otherwise the decoration will quickly look bulky. Small objects, on the other hand, look particularly good on highboards.
Compared to the classic chest of drawers, the sideboard stands out above all for its versatility. It can be equipped with both closed and open shelves and drawers. Thanks to this, you can, for example, place decorations on the visible surfaces and hide things that you do not want to be seen behind doors. Many models also have drawers so that you have space on different levels. Illuminated shelf compartments can be used to showcase fine glasses or bowls.

What should you look for when buying a sideboard?

Before you decide on a model, you should think carefully about what you want to store in your sideboard. While decorative items are well suited to open compartments, file folders can be stored behind closed doors. If you want to place a TV on the individual piece of furniture, make sure that the sideboard has cable openings in the back wall. To accommodate a conventional hi-fi system (standard dimensions), it needs compartments at least 45 centimetres wide and 40 centimetres deep.
The custom made dimensions of a sideboard therefore also depend on what you want to use the piece of furniture for. Combinations with shelving units, highboards and lowboards, for example, are also very versatile. Combinations with flowing transitions create a particularly modern look.
Like all other new purchases, the sideboard should match your existing furnishings. When choosing materials, colours, fronts, legs and handles, you should not only consider the function of the sideboard, but also the other style of your home.

Sideboard with legs or wall-hung hoverboard?

A sideboard, the material used and its shape and size, influence the perception and effect of a room. A custom made hanging sideboard, for example, creates a light, modern impression. In addition, such a piece of furniture makes the room appear larger, as short walls can be visually lengthened with a long sideboard. The advantage of the sideboard fitted with feet or castors is that it can be easily moved around the room or within the house and thus effortlessly adapts to changing needs.

How can you customise a sideboard in the Pickawood online configurator?

Our online configurator offers a range of functions to help you put together your personal sideboard. In just four steps, you choose custom made, material and colours to get closer to your dream sideboard. All woods processed by Pickawood are FSC-certified and come from established European suppliers.
In addition to custom made dimensions and colour, you can choose different shelf feet made of wood or metal to give your sideboard a unique look. Of course, you also have the option of equipping your sideboard with practical castors. These ensure that the sideboard can be easily pushed from one place to another. We also offer models with handles, special back panel colours, wall brackets and skirting board recesses. The latter is recommended if you want your sideboard to rest directly against the wall.

How do you assemble a sideboard?

We deliver your sideboard to your home free of charge. Due to the size of the furniture, it is delivered in individual parts that you can assemble yourself at home. But don't worry: compared to large cupboards or wardrobes, a sideboard is usually very quick and easy to assemble.
Take your time and read the instructions for assembly. Ideally, unpack the individual components on a carpet or soft blanket and arrange them in an orderly fashion. First check that all the small parts, screws and dowels are present. A cordless screwdriver can help you tighten the screws. A plastic hammer can be helpful to place the dowels in the holes provided.

How can I decorate a sideboard?

Decorating the sideboard depends on your personal taste as well as the style of your home. A sideboard that stands in the hallway or living room, for example, can be embellished with a vase or bowl as well as fresh flowers or dried flowers. Books, glasses, decorative items or family photos can be stored in the open shelves and on the storage surface. Stylish arrangements of small lamps, flower pots or candles also make a good impression. If you like it casual, you can, for example, lean a framed picture on the shelf against the wall instead of fixing it to the wall. When decorating, always make sure to go for subtle colours so that the sideboard does not look too restless.
