3D Bookcase & Shelving Configurator

Simple steps to the perfect shelving unit

Defining the exterior dimensions

You can determine the dimensions of your shelving unit to the nearest centimetre. It is possible to create shelving units up to 3 meters high and 6 meters wide. If you wish for ceiling-high shelving or would like to place your storage unit in a niche please take into consideration the following assembly distances.

Continuous top and bottom panels
Material thickness 2 cm or 3cm: 4 cm to the ceiling; 3 cm on each side.

Divided top and bottom panels
Material thickness 2 cm or 3 cm: 2 cm to the ceiling; 3 cm on each side.

Choosing your materials

You can configure made-to-measure shelving units in 12 solid wood types, varnished and coated MDF boards, real wood veneers, premium decors as well as in multiplex. In Step 2 of the configurator, you can select the material, colour and surface treatment. For some solid woods, you can also choose between a patchwork or continuous slat arrangement.

Specifying the material thickness

Depending on the surface treatment, the material thickness is approx. 1.8 cm to 2.0 cm or approx. 2.8 cm to 3.0 cm. The material thickness will not impact your chosen external dimensions.

Adjusting the plinth

You can add a plinth for your shelving unit between 7 cm and 15 cm in height. Should you require a base plinth that has other dimensions, feel free to contact us. In Step 8 of the configurator, you can also integrate a skirting board cut-out. Shelving units without a base can also be configured as a wall shelf, this option is also found in the last step of the configurator.

Planning your columns

For solid wood and multiplex shelving, the maximum column width is 90 cm with 2 cm material thickness or 120 cm with 3 cm thickness. For MDF, premium decor and real wood veneer, the maximum column width is 75 cm with 2 cm material thickness and 90 cm with 3 cm thickness.

Designing the compartments

In each column, you can add an individual number of compartments. You can adjust the height of each compartment by holding down the mouse button on the highlighted arrows.

Selecting doors and drawers

In Step 7 of the configurator, you can integrate doors and drawers by clicking on a specific compartment. To add doors over several vertical compartments, select the desired compartments by holding down the mouse button. Front for doors and drawers are manufactured with a material thickness of 2 cm. In the case of external fronts, the specified depth increases by 2 cm.

Adding additional features

In the final step of the configurator, you can add unique details to further enhance your new custom shelving unit. For example, if you have chosen not to include a base plinth, with just one click you can create stylish hanging shelving. You can also create flexible shelving arrangements by incorporating mounting hole strips.

Shelving in detail

Dividing the boards

For technical reasons, the top or bottom boards and stringers must be divided from these dimensions: Solid wood: 300 cm, MDF/real wood veneer: 275 cm, Multiplex: 245 cm, Premium decor: 275 cm. If you want to determine where the division should be made, please contact us.

Back panels

Our grooved back panels are made of 0.3 cm thick HDF boards. We offer the back panels in white, gray and black and for specific materials also back panels with real wood veneer. Please note that the shelving unit loses about 1.9 cm in depth with a back panel. On request, we can also supply solid back panels.

You can choose from five handles in different designs. If you want to plan doors and drawers without a handle, you can choose the push-to-open solution.

Dimensions of folders & co.

Standard dimensions:
DIN-A4 folder (WxHxD): 29.0 × 32.0 × 8.0 cm
CD sleeve (WxHxD): 14.2 x 12.5 x 1.0 cm
Blu-Ray case (WxHxD): 13.5 x 17.0 x 1.4 cm
DVD case (WxHxD): 13.5 x 19.0 x 1.5 cm

Room dividers

For the room divider option, we manufacture the pinth (if selected) on both sides. In addition, all doors are mirrored 1:1, so you can use the compartment from both sides. If you have planned a room divider with drawers, the back side will be manufactured in the same look as the drawer front. For safety reasons, we recommend that room dividers be attached to a wall.

Stair shelves

It is very easy to plan a stair shelf online. First of all, choose the maximum height that you want the future shelving unit to have. Then you can adjust the height of each column individually. There you can also determine the number of columns and the size of the shelves.

Skirting board cut-outs

If the custom shelving unit is to be placed against a wall with skirting boards, you can plan a cut-out. The baseboard cut-out can be maximum as high as the plinth.

Height adjustments

You can compensate for unevenness in your floor of up to 1.8 cm with the help of a flexible height adjuster, so that your custom piece of furniture can be aligned straight. This increases the overall height of the shelving unit by 0.55 cm.

Cable channels & cutouts

On request, we will be happy to manufacture cable outlets, cable channels, and cutouts for your piece of multimedia furniture. You have the possibility to keep these outlets open or to cover them with a cover flap. You can specify the desired cutouts directly in the shopping cart. We will then send you a suitable offer immediately.

Strip with mounting holes

If you decide to select a shelving strip with mounting holes, the shelf division becomes obsolete. You can subsequently arrange the shelves in any height at intervals of 3.2 cm. Doors or drawers planned by you will be fixed at the specified height. If you want a shelving unit without fronts, one horizontal compartment row (two compartments rows for shelves higher than two meters) will be fixed for stability reasons.

Custom-made pieces of furniture

Are you looking for a completely individual design? Then do not hesitate to contact us. We have already implemented numerous special constructions for our customers. For example, you can also plan your custom shelving unit as a door conversion. Depth offsets are also possible without any problems. We will be happy to advise you on your custom design free of charge and without obligation.
