Our Tailor-Made Furniture in Detail
Are you interested in a tailor-made shelving unit, a custom chest of drawers or a made-to-measure library and would like to know more about our furniture in detail? This page gives an overview of the main elements, including the woodworking and the links or hinges used in our units. Should you have further questions, send us an e-mail.
The main body of all our furniture - shelving, chests of drawers, sideboards and library units - is always formed of four side elements bolted firmly together. The top and bottom boards are one-piece throughout, and the top board rests on top of the two upright side cheeks. This assures a high level of stability. A plinth is optional. As standard, plinths have a height of 7 cm. Higher plinths can be provided. Side panels longer than 290 cm (solid wood) or 280 cm (MDF) are made in two parts. We can also provide a cut-out for your skirting board. We are ready to discuss special requirements at any time. Simply call us on +49 (0) 40 524 77 770 or send us an e-mail.
You can configure all compartments to your own choice of height, width and depth. You have the choice here of fixed shelf heights or a hole strip. If your shelving unit features a hole strip, you have flexibility in positioning and repositioning your shelves. If you specify a hole strip, any shelf heights already entered will be voided. On higher shelving units, one continuous horizontal row of shelves must be fixed in place to maintain stability.
You have the option of adding a plinth strip to your furniture item. This can be selected in the second step of the configurator. Our plinths are one-piece from one end to the other. The standard plinth height is 7 cm but higher or lower plinths are of course available as special requests.
Skirting Board Cut-out
Many rooms feature a skirting board around the walls. We can saw a cut-out in your furniture to the required dimensions free of charge. This then allows your unit to stand flush against the wall. You can enter the dimensions in the last step of the configurator in cm (height and depth). If the cut-out is higher than the plinth (7 cm, if selected), the bottom shelf will be reduced in depth by the depth of the skirting board cut-out.
Our doors are mounted flush with the unit (i.e. inside the compartments) as standard, so you do not need to plan extra space for doors when measuring for the unit. Doors in either MDF or solid wood are 2 cm thick and can be made in the same material as the main body or in a different material. Our glass doors are 6 mm thick (safety glass). Available opening mechanisms include push-to-open (without handles), a knob, a handle or a cutaway. The door widths must be between 15 and 100 cm and the heights also between 15 and 100 cm. Please note: When internal doors are fitted, the stated depth of the unit is reduced by about 2 cm.
Our drawers are also designed to sit internally to the unit. Their fronts are made in the material of your choice. Please note when calculating the space requirement for drawers that you should deduct another 2 cm or so from either side. This is the space required for the hinges and box. Various types of opening are available: push-to-open, handle, knob or cutaway. The width of drawers must be between 20 and 120 cm and their height between 17 and 60 cm. The minimum depth is 30 cm.
The edges of both solid wood and painted MDF (all colours) are lightly chamfered as standard. In the case of coated MDF (matt white, matt grey) the edges are given a veneer with the relevant colour. If you would prefer a different veneer (e.g., with a wood pattern), please contact our advisors.
Selection of veneers for MDF coated (many others also possible)
Wall fixing/anti-tip protection for shelving units
We provide a number of brackets with all shelving units to prevent them tipping over. The size of the brackets is determined by that of the shelving unit. This helps prevent the unit from tipping. This is particularly important if small children are present in the room. As a rule, the less the depth of the shelving unit, the more important is anti-tip protection.
There are four choices of handle for drawers or doors in solid wood. With MDF we regret we cannot offer the cutaway version. The right type for your taste is sure to be available. If however you would like something different, please contact us. We are happy to pre-drill holes for knobs/handles in positions specified by you.
Our standard back panels are hardboard sections roughly 4 mm thick. Please note that the back panel will therefore reduce the depth of the shelving by roughly 0.6 cm. We offer back panels in different colours and reproduction solid wood. If you require particularly thick back panels, double-sided back panels or veneered back panels, please contact an advisor. To prevent damage during transport, in some situations the back panel may be formed of multiple sections and supplied with connector elements.
If you select the ‘Wall-Suspended Shelving’ option, we will fit the unit with hidden wall mounts. These are fitted to the back of the unit and have a load capacity of maximum 120 kg per pair. You must ensure that you have the right type of rawl plug for your wall type to carry the unit.
